Domain trolls nabbed the original Bodog domain name several years ago in a now infamous and embarrassing day for the original Bodog ownership. Since then, the company has been sold and the new ownership has played ball with the trolls. Below is the official press release by the affiliate managers:

"First off, Morris Mohawk Gaming Group (MMGG) never owned the Bodog.com domain, a now defunct Costa Rica based company was the original registrant of the domain. As the exclusive licensee of the Bodog brand for online gaming in the United States, it was in MMGG's best interest to resolve any issues that may have a negative impact on the Bodog brand and, as a result, MMGG's business. As such, the strategic decision was made to settle the dispute involving Bodog.com and several other domains.

We're all very happy that Bodog.com is back. When needed, we were able to switch from Bodog.com to Bodoglife.com within 24 hours with virtually no interruption to our player base. Now that Bodog.com is back and we have the luxury to be more strategic in our planning, we won't be making the move back to Bodog.com over night (which I'm sure our developers are happy to hear).

At the moment we are still finalizing the details of the plan; however, we will be transitioning back to Bodog.com. All affiliates will be kept well informed of how the final plan relates to any linking strategy, but for now, its business as usual. Gaining control of Bodog.com is just a small part of what's shaping up to be a momentous year for the Bodog brand! - Bodog Affiliate Team"

So what price did they pay? I am sure we will never know. But this is actually a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. It encourages domain trolls to hold domains for ransom and if they have patience they will win in the long run. But it also shows a no-nonsense approach by the new Bodog ownership to get things back to being right. Bodog was recently upgraded at our site to B+ status.
