Baseball Game Preview and Free Pick, April 16, 2010

Washington Nationals (4-5) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (4-5) J. Lannan, Was. (1-1, 8.31) vs. Y. Gallardo, Mil. (0-2, 6.75) The reason we are picking the Nationals in this one is value. Betting baseball is totally different than betting other sports. In football and basketball betting, you look for the team that will win or cover and you try to guess by how much.  Baseball betting is a marathon and not a sprint. There is less emphasis on each and every game and more on the big picture and simply picking more right than wrong.  Also, we suggest staying away from monster favorites (ex. -280). So with this said, are we convinced Washington will beat the Brewers tonight?  No.  Are we convinced they will lose? No. But the value is in the money line.  Washington is at home starting their best pitcher and coming off a win at Philly.  The Brewers are also coming off a win at Chicago Cubs but they lost the series 1-2.  Both teams are 4-5.   We just feel that Washington at home +140 is too good to pass up.   Betting underdogs in baseball is where the value is. You could bet nothing but underdogs the entire season and win less than half of your games and still make a profit.
