Derek Carr Moving Up on MVP Futures Board

November 11, 2016

A big conversation amongst NFL pundits is the return of the Oakland Raiders. Since 2002, the Raiders have not had a single winning season. However, the Raiders after 9 weeks of the regular season are 7-2 and sit atop the AFC West after defeating Denver last week.

The potent offense has carried the team to victories and rallied them to late game wins. Leading the offense is none other than star quarterback Derek Carr.

The Raiders signal caller is No. 5 in the league in touchdowns and passing yards, while No. 6 in passer rating. Carr’s 17 touchdowns to just 3 interceptions is one of the best ratios in the NFL.

His passing talents are helped by the receiving duo of Michael Crabtree and Amari Cooper, whom are considered the best duo in the NFL.

Only a couple of weeks ago, Carr sat at +3300 on the NFL MVP futures board. However, starting Week 10, the signal caller for the Raiders is +900 to win the prestigious award.

At the top of the futures board is Patriots signal caller Tom Brady. Although Brady has played just four games, he has a completion percentage of 73% and has 12 touchdown passes and zero picks.

Brady’s name carries much more weight in the eyes of voters, but in the end, the four games he missed might do him in, if Carr continues to tear up opposing defenses.

Carr sits tied for third in odds to win the NFL MVP award with Matt Ryan second, and Ezekiel Elliott in third.

The Raiders quarterback will have his hands full trying to pass the likes of Ryan and distancing himself from Elliott, let alone Brady as all three of the players are having – you guessed it – MVP-like seasons.
