NYCFC at New England Revolution Betting Preview
September 2, 2020
Two teams in the middle of the Eastern Conference table get together this week as the sixth-place New England Revolution host ninth-place New York City FC. The jam-packed table sees fifth place and tenth-place separated by just three points so either of these teams can make a big move by grabbing all three points in a win. The contest kicks off at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough at 8:00 p.m. ET Wednesday on ESPN+.
Since NYCFC joined MLS in 2015 these teams have met 13 times with three draws, six wins by New England and four wins by NYCFC. Last season both teams won at home with NYCFC taking a 2-1 win in July and the Revolution winning 2-0 in September. The last and only time NYCFC won in Massachusetts was 2016 as NE is 4-1-1 at home against the Boys in Blue.
NYCFC Outlook: Ride the Momentum
After a very slow start to the season, NYCFC have finally gotten into gear over the last week with 1-0 and 3-1 wins in their borrowed home of Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. In the 3-1 win over Chicago Fire on Saturday, NYCFC got goals from Keaton Parks, Anton Tinnerholm and captain Alexander Ring. It marked just the second of 10 games this season in which NYCFC scored more than one goal.
NYCFC led MLS in goals scored last season and six of their 10 goals this season have come from two games. Jesus Medina leads the way with three total goals, two in Orlando while Ring has scored two goals this season. Parks and Tinnerholm are joined by Ismael Tajouri-Shradi, Valentin Castellanos and Maxi Moralez as the other goal scorers.
Goalie Sean Johnson has back-to-back wins and eight goals allowed in eight regular-season starts in 2020. He has secured two clean sheets while making 34 saves and he has three wins.
New England Revolution Outlook: Keep Attacking
The Revs secured a third-straight positive result on Saturday but couldn’t put together a win streak as they drew 1-1 at home against New York Red Bulls. After falling behind in the 35th minute, the Revs got even through Gustavo Bou in the 41st minute. They dominated possession at 61 percent and finished the game a man up but couldn’t find the game-winner.
Bou has scored in two straight games and leads the team overall with three goals this season. Adam Buksa and Teal Bunbury have both scored twice and no other Revs player has found the back of the net. Four different players have one assist each on the seven goals scored.
Goalie Matt Turner has started seven of the eight regular-season games in goal with five goals allowed, three clean sheets and 24 saves. Brad Knighton earned a draw against Chicago in March as he made five saves and allowed one goal. The Revs have just two losses on the season, one in regular-season play, but they have more draws (5) than wins (2).
NYCFC at New England Revolution Betting Lines By RealBookies Per Head
NYCFC to win: +185
New England to win: +135
Draw: +255
Over/Under: 2.5 goals (O -115, U -105)
Both of these teams struggle to score with only Nashville having less goals (3) in regular-season play than NYCFC’s six and New England is next lowest at seven. A 1-1 or even a 0-0 draw is very possible as neither team has allowed more than one goal in their last three games. With the standings in a tight cluster a win would be vital to the playoff hopes of either side to create separation.
