Belmont Stakes Odds and Picks

June 19, 2020
Farmington Road Horse

Saturday June 20, 2020 – This years race was moved back to this date because of the Covid-19 pandemic which saw the Kentucky Derby postponed until September 5th and the Preakness Stakes moved back to October.  Hopefully this race taking place will bring some sense of normalcy to an otherwise chaotic 2020.

The main event is race #10 of the day at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y. The event can be seen on the NBC network and coverage begins at 3pm ET. The actual race is scheduled for 5:42 pm ET.

This race features a heavy favorite which is almost 5 times higher price than the next horse on the odds-sheet. “Tiz the Law” is the name of this thoroughbred. And the reason he is so heavily favored is apparent when you study Tiz the Law’s race record. In his five starts, the champion horse has finished first in four of those contests. He finished third place in the other. His total earnings are $945,300

Picks

Personally, I hate laying the favorite. I am an underdog type of guy. I am not laying 2 to win one. Especially when this is more of an entertainment event for me and not a money-making venture.

I like Farmington Road (pictured) to win. This horse is getting +2200. He has started four races in 2020 and finished with a first and a second place. And like I said, I love a long-shot. You can actually bet him win, place and show if you like and if he finishes in the top three you are in the money.

Other picks that are available online. Here are two sets of picks from the flailing New York Times.

Joe Drape’s pick for win – place – show:

  • Dr Post
  • Tiz the Law
  • Modernist

Melissa Hoppert’s picks for win – place – show:

  • Tiz the Law
  • Tap It to Win
  • Modernist

Good luck and most of all enjoy the moments leading up to the race. Those are some of the best moments to many people. And if you lose, have some fun and tear up your ticket and throw it in the air dramatically in good spirit. If you bet online, print out your ticket so you can rip it up in similar fashion. A loss feels better when you do it.. like you’re actually at the race.
