Hall of Fame Game Begins NFL Preseason

August 3, 2017

The 2017 NFL preseason kicks off Thursday with the annual Hall of Fame Game, which this year features the Dallas Cowboys vs the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cowboys under head coach Jason Garrett will use a quarterback rotation that could include last year’s starter Dak Prescott, Luke McCown, Kellen Moore and Cooper Rush a rookie.

The Cowboys put little stock in preseason games under Garrett since 2011 when he officially became head coach. Over the past three seasons, Dallas has a preseason record of 2-10 straight up and 4-8 against the spread during exhibition games.

In 2016, the Cowboys allowed 27 or more points in three of their four preseason games.

Last season’s starting quarterback Prescott is not likely to play much Thursday, which should allow Moore to show his stuff.

Arizona will have a quarterback rotation of Blaine Gabbert and Trevor Knight a rookie from Texas A&M. Gabbert will play the first half, while Knight will play the second.

Head coach Bruce Arians will not play starters at this game, including Carson Palmer his first team signal caller. Palmer’s backup Drew Stanton is sitting as well for this game.

During the past two preseasons the Cardinals have been an excellent OVER play cashing OVER in 7 of 8 games.

Garrett during his preseason head coaching career is 9-16 SU and ATS, while the Cowboys on the over/under are 11-12 with 2 pushes. Arians for Arizona is 7-9 SU and 8-7-1 ATS, while the over/under is 9-7.

This season Dallas is expected to battle for the NFC Championship, but at this point coaches need to sort out the talent they have on their roster.

Betting Trends for Hall of Fame Games

Dallas is 2-3 in Hall of Fame action, with its most recent appearance against Miami in 2013 in which the Cowboys prevailed 24-20.

Arizona in Hall of Fame games is 2-2, losing 17-10 to New Orleans in 2012 in its most recent appearance. The other three appearances were when the Cardinals played in St. Louis.

This is the first time since 2012 that two teams in the same conference are playing in the HOF game.

The UNDER has cashed in four of the last five HOF games.

Four of the past six HOF games were decided by four or more points.
