NCAA Picks for This Weekend – Week 7

October 10, 2014

Week 7 NCAA football is here faster than it should be. The season is flying bye and this marks the halfway point of the regular season. There are several game on the boards this weekend that have piqued our interest.  Based on our research of this weekends match-ups here are the picks we have:

Northwestern +4 at Minnesota

Northwestern is playing tough football as of late.  They are coming off two huge wins vs. Penn State and Wisconsin.  Before those wins it was looking bleak for head coach Pat Fitzgerald.  But now the team has a full head of steam.  Minnesota is 4-1 on the season which is quite impressive, seemingly, but their only true test was at TCU and they lost that game. They beat Michigan but that doesn’t mean much this season. If this were a pick em’ I would say flip a coin. But the Wildcats are getting four and that is enough for me to throw a nickel on them.

Texas Tech +6 vs. West Virginia

Texas Tech has been a let down this season. They are just 2-3 SU.  All three of their losses came against good teams. So they have that going for them. West Virginia on the other hand is a decent team and have beaten the likes of Maryland and Kansas. This is why the visitor in this game is favored by a almost a TD.  But we like the points at home for Texas Tech when you consider that West Virginia is 4-8 ATS in its last 12 games.  And when you factor in that Texas Tech is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games at home. Take the Red Raiders here.

LSU +1.5 at Florida

LSU is 4-2 SU and Florida is 3-1. LSU may not be the team that some experts thought they were going to be. But I can tell you they still have plenty of talent and fight left in them. Their losses were against Auburn and Mississippi State, two power house teams. Florida isn’t quite where it needs to be yet and LSU is hungry for it’s first real win of the season. The swamp is a tough place to play. Florida played Kentucky in the swamp and won by six. You have to ask yourself, how much better is LSU than Kentucky on a neutral field? 7 points?  I can see LSU pulling off the close win at Florida.
