NFL Week 5 Picks Against the Spread

October 4, 2014

We are now ¼ the way through the 2014 NFL season. It’s almost hard to believe how fast the season is going. Hopefully your bets have gone in your favor thus far. Now let’s focus on moving forward. Week 5 brings about some enticing games to bet on. Here are my favorites:

Cleveland (+1.5) At Tennessee

The Titans picked up a nice road win over Kansas City in Week 1. Since then, they’ve been a disaster. Cleveland has played better than their record indicates. Hoyer has performed well and given the Browns no reason to start Johnny Manziel…yet. For my sake, I hope he continues to play well because I like Cleveland at +1.5 here.  Pick: Cleveland 23 Tennessee 13

New York Giants (-4) Versus Atlanta

Atlanta really let me down last week. I’m not falling back in love with them. I’m convinced they played out of their minds the first couple of weeks. The real Atlanta Falcons showed up against Minnesota. Therefore, I’m over them. Give me the Giants and the points here.  Pick: New York 27 Atlanta 20

New Orleans (-10.5) Versus Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay disappointed me by defeating Pittsburgh last week. I think that was probably a fluke. New Orleans played like absolute garbage a week ago but they’re a different team at home. Drew Brees will have a big game and the Saints defense will get stops when they need to.  Pick: New Orleans 31 Tampa Bay 14

Dallas (-6.5) Versus Houston

Houston has overachieved thus far. Give some credit to Bill O’Brien. This week, however, will start their downfall. Dallas has turned their season around. J.J. Watt won’t be enough to slow down Dallas’ potent offensive attack.  Pick: Dallas 34 Houston 20

Detroit (-6.5) Versus Buffalo

Fans in Buffalo are getting excited. The Bills have been a pleasant surprise. But I also think Detroit is legit. In fact, they’re more legit. Detroit’s offense is tough and they have an improved defense. With this game being played in Detroit, I think the Lions will win with relative ease.  Pick: Detroit 38 Buffalo 24

Baltimore (+3.5) At Indianapolis

I think Baltimore has righted the ship. This is a team that had a disappointing 2013 season after winning the Super Bowl. They’re back. Baltimore has a ball-control offense and is exceptional on defense again. I’m confident the Ravens will go into Indianapolis and get a win against a Colts team that has also played well lately.  Pick: Baltimore 24 Indianapolis 21
