Recap of Week 2 in the NFL

Week 2 of the NFL is behind us with the exception of Monday Night’s Jets vs. Colts game.

Here is Week 2 in betting numbers

  • The favorites were 7-8 straight up and against the spread. The home teams were 9-6 SU and ATS. The Over/Under was 7-7-1 on the week.
  • The largest underdog winner straight up was Tampa Bay at +9 on the road against New Orleans 26-19.
  • The biggest favorite that covered was Pittsburgh at -6 over the 49ers by the score of 43-18.

After Week 2

  • Seattle the defending champions of the NFC are now 0-2 SU, while the Redskins, Bucs, Raiders, Jaguars and Browns each have won and have better records than the Seahawks.
  • Road favorites suffered in Week 2 with St. Louis, Miami and Baltimore all losing straight up. Road favorites were only 1-3 SU and ATS, with just the Arizona Cardinals winning and covering at Chicago.

Point totals

  • The Dallas vs. Philadelphia game pegged to by a shootout with 53.5 points turned into a battle of defenses with Dallas winning and the point total reaching just 30. The Falcons and Giants was to be a shootout at 49.5 points and only 44 were scored. The Seahawks and Packers were at 49.5 but just 44 were scored.
  • Of the six games that had the lowest point totals on the board, 4 went over, 1 under and 1 was a push.
  • In the four games from primetime during Week 1, the UNDER covered 3 of 4, thus far in Week 2 the UNDER is 1-1. Last season in primetime games, the OVER was 33-17 and 28-22 during 2013.

There were a number of injuries to top players.

  • Tony Romo is out with a broken collarbone, which will keep him sidelined 8 to 10 weeks.
  • Jay Cutler the Bears QB hurt his hamstring and his status is unknown.
  • Matthew Stafford the Detroit QB hurt his chest and ribs and his status is unknown.

There were many others, which makes it that much more important to review the injury reports before placing your bets this weekend.
