Week 1 College Football Bettors Beaten in the Last Second

September 7, 2015

From a game called on account of severe weather in Georgia to a Hail Mary pass by BYU in Nebraska, bettors became victimized on a number of occasions during Week 1 of the college football regular season.

The bad luck for many bettors started on Thursday and continued throughout the weekend

South Carolina defeated North Carolina 17-13. The line on the game was South Carolina -2.5.

South Carolina was barely holding onto a lead late in the fourth quarter with North Carolina driving. On fourth and goal from the 8-yard line of South Carolina, South Carolina linebacker Skai Moore picked off a Tar Heel pass for his second interception in the end zone for the game. The pick secured the outright win and cover for the Gamecocks.

In the Western Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt game, WKU was favored by 2 points. Western Kentucky scored midway through the final quarter to go up 14-6. Vanderbilt was held from scoring a touchdown the entire night until they scored with less than two minutes to play. A two-point conversion sends the game to overtime, but Vanderbilt failed. Most bettors pushed on that bet with final 14-12.

One of the most exciting endings of the weekend was in the BYU vs. Nebraska game. The over/under was 59 on most sportsbooks.

Nebraska was leading the game 28-27 with only three seconds remaining in the game. The Cornhuskers were not covering on the point spread but on straight up, over/under point total, teasers and parlays on the moneyline they were still alive.

BYU lost Taysom Hill its star quarterback to a broken leg and Tanner Mangum a freshman quarterback  just back from his 2-year mission took the last snap of the game. He threw a Hail Mary from the 42-yard line that was caught by Mitch Mathews who just fell into the end zone. On that one play, all of Nebraska’s tickets were lost and the OVER cashed.

So this weekend bettors learned on a number of occasions that the game is not over until the final whistle has sounded, just asked the thousands of faithful in Lincoln, Nebraska.
