Recap of Week 9 of College Football

Scott Morris | November 2, 2015

Week 9 of college football is now in the books. A recap of the week shows that favorites straight up were 42-10 and 26-26 against the spread.

Favorites at home were 29-23 SU and 24-28 ATS. The over/under ended the week at 23-29.

The biggest underdog to win outright at +10 was Miami in its wild finish over Duke 30-27. The biggest favorite to cover was Oklahoma -39 in the Sooners 62-7 win over Kansas.

Michigan in their last game prior to a week off lost on the last play of the game against Michigan State. This time the Wolverines won on the last play on the road at Minnesota, as the defense stopped a quarterback sneak from the half yard line as time ran out.

Iowa was up 31-7 against Maryland with only 7:30 left on the clock after an 88-yard pick-6. At the time, Iowa was covering, but on the ensuing kickoff, Maryland returned the kickoff for a touchdown to get a back door cover as not more scoring took place.

Oklahoma has covered in three consecutive games after being upset in the Red River rivalry. Two of those wins were on the road and the Sooners are now 5-1 on the OVER in its past 6 games.

Houston has been under the radar all season. Ranked No. 19 the Cougars easily beat Vanderbilt 34-0 for its third consecutive OVER and sixth in seven games.

The Cougars have scored 34 or more points in each of the 8 games they have played, but their defense is shutting down opponents as well. Houston has allowed a combined 17 points over its last three games.

Stanford entered its game at Washington State 6-0 SU and ATS over its past six games and favored by 10. The Cardinal was 5-2 ATS over its last seven against the Cougars and 7-2 ATS over it last 9 as a favorite.

That meant little to Washington State. The Cougars almost pulled off a huge Pac-12 upset narrowly losing 30-28. The Cougars covered their fourth straight game.

Friday Night Football

The Mountain West championship game on Friday will determine a team’s berth in the College Football Playoffs. It’s a rematch of Boise State’s Week 9 road victory over UNLV, which ended 29–24.

UNLV’s (10-2) has typically been owned by Boise State (11-1). The Broncos have defeated the Rebels seven times in a row since 1977.
