SEC Heavy Favorite to Have National Champion Playing in its Conference

August 23, 2016

College Football’s regular season opens with one game on Friday August 26, followed by a number of games on Thursday September 1.

Once again, this season, the SEC is the clear favorite to have the National Champion amongst its ranks. Nearly every college football pundit will tell you the SEC is the best overall football conference in the country top to bottom.

The SEC on a number of sportsbooks is +185 amongst all football conference to have the national champion in its conference.

Entering the 2015 college football regular season, panic was setting in, in the SEC, as a conference team did not win the college football national title in 2013 or 2014. However, things were back under control when Alabama defeated Clemson to win the national title last January and bring it back to the SEC.

It was the fourth national title Alabama has won in the last seven seasons.

This season, three legitimate contenders for the national title reside in the SEC. Alabama is currently the favorite to win the national title on many sportsbooks at +600. LSU is close behind at +800 and Tennessee is +1400.

No conference has sent two participants to the college football playoff in its first two seasons, following the BCS Championship format. There has not been any team with more than one loss reach the final four teams to play the national semifinals and final.

The Big Ten has odds of +300 to have a conference member win the national title. Amongst the possible representatives are Ohio State at +900 and Michigan at +1000.

The ACC is up next at +375 to have one or possibly two members make it to the final four. Clemson is +700 to win the national championship while Florida State is +1000.

The Big 12 follows at +550, with its favorite to win the conference and reach the CFP being Oklahoma at +1100.

The last of the Power 5 conferences is the Pac-12 at +650. The Pac-12’s best possibility is Stanford at +2800 to win the national title behind Christian McCaffrey an early season Heisman Trophy favorite.

Other conference that could send a sleeper to the CFP are the AAC at +5000, the Mountain West at +10000, the MAC at +20000, Conference USA at +25000 and the Sun Belt at +50000.
