College Football News That Could Affect the Spread

November 2, 2018

Week 10 of the college football regular season has kicked off with early week night games and a full slate of games will follow on Saturday. Here are a few of the latest happenings that could affect sports bettors and the lines made by sportsbooks.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama faces its biggest challenged since the start of the season when it visits Death Valley to play the LSU Tigers. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa continues to lead the race for the Heisman Trophy but has a nagging injury that caused his numbers to drop off slightly last month.

Tagovailoa will start but his knee could make it more difficult for the Alabama signal caller to scramble and side-step the rush of the Tigers when dropping back to pass.

Maryland Terrapins

Just a day after reinstating head football coach D.J. Durkin, the University of Maryland back out and decided midweek that is would fire Durkin. The change started following major criticism by the media as well as several players leaving a meeting on Tuesday with Durkin.

However, the deal breaker came from the Governor of Maryland Larry Hogan, who released a statement on Wednesday tearing into the Board of Regents. The BOR and Durkin were victorious in a power struggle with the president of Maryland, who wanted Durkin fired from the start.

Matt Canada the offensive coordinator remains interim head coach and the Terrapins host the Michigan State Spartans in a Big Ten showdown on Saturday.

Oregon Ducks

Star quarterback Justin Herbert was able to practices Wednesday and Thursday and has been upgraded for Saturday’s game a home versus UCLA to probable. Last week the Ducks star signal caller suffered a concussion in Oregon’s 44-15 loss to Arizona. Thus far Herbert has a 20 to 6 touchdown to interception ratio.

Dillion Mitchell, Herbert’s favorite target has not left concussion protocol yet and is listed as questionable against UCLA. Mitchell has caught 48 passes for 678 yards and four touchdowns. As of Thursday night, Oregon was 10-point home chalk.

Washington Huskies

Washington star running back Myles Gaskin missed the last two Huskies games after sustaining a shoulder injury. The school’s all-time leading rusher is listed as “questionable” for this week’s clash with Stanford, which has its own problems with injuries.

Stanford running back Bryce Love and offensive guard Nate Herbig have been listed as “questionable” for the Cardinal.
