Cardinals vs 49ers Free Pick

Scott Morris | October 31, 2019
TNF free pick - Cardinals vs 49ers

Thursday night is Halloween. So, after you are done taking the kids trick-or-treating you can settle in, grab a beer and watch the Arizona Cardinals host the San Francisco 49ers.

The Cardinals are 3-4-1 in the NFL standings. Not bad for a rebuilding team that is featuring a rookie QB. The ‘Niners are 7-0. This is their best record in nearly 30 years. Everyone knows how good San Francisco is.

The ‘Niners score just a smidge under 30 PPG while only allowing 11 PPG. The Cardinals, on the other hand, allow more than they score. They put up 21 PPG and allow 28. San Fran is obviously the better team.

But, in sports betting, you don’t just pick the team you think is going to win straight up. That would be too easy. You have to bet a point spread if you want even odds. In this game the visiting 49ers are ten point favorites and the total is 43 points.

Both Arizona and San Fran are good against the spread. The ‘Niners are 5-2 and the Cards are 5-3 ATS. Arizona is 2-2 ATS at home and San Fran is 3-1 ATS on the road. The edge belongs to San Fran.

It should be noted that Arizona is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games when playing San Francisco. They seem to do well against the ‘Niners traditionally. But, how will that translate to this year’s matchup?

The Cards are coming off an embarrassing 31-9 loss to the Saints. The ‘Niners are coming off a 51-13 drubbing of the Panthers.

Ten points is a lot to lay to a visiting team. But, the ‘Niners are playing lights out ball right now. We are leaning toward the Cardinals plus the points here. And, we are actually liking the total as well. The total has gone UNDER in 4 of San Francisco’s last 5 games. Also, the total has gone UNDER in 4 of San Francisco’s last 5 games when playing Arizona. Finally, the total has gone UNDER in 4 of San Francisco’s last 5 games when playing Arizona on the road.

In conclusion we can see plenty of punting and brinkmanship. We are looking at a ball control game and think that the Under 43 points may be the best bet concerning this particular game.

Game Notes:

Arizona RB David Johnson expected to miss game. Look for new Cardinal Kenyon Drake to get some solid playing time.
