Can LeBron James Win His First Ring with the Lakers this Season?
As far as we know, according to the latest news coming from the NBA in all its fronts, is that the 2019-2020 season will resume, and the proposed date is July 31st. It has been a long journey, lots of meetings, many rumors, people who want to play, others who don’t, but apparently, the season will finish and all remaining games would be played in the most magical place on the planet, Walt Disney World in Orlando.
For anyone who follows the NBA, this season proved to be a lot different from the previous ones. Why? The most recent transfer market re-shaped the league and the trend is no longer “super teams”, but it went back to the famous power duos, and this has given hope and actual chances of winning to several different teams, as opposed to the Golden State Warriors monopoly, since Kevin Durant joined the team. Durant left the Warriors and joined Kyrie Irving in the Brooklyn Nets, Kawhi Leonard moved to the LA Clippers, where he was joined by Paul George, James Harden and Russell Westbrook are now playing together again, but in Houston, Giannis Antetokounmpo has Khris Middleton in the Bucks, and of course, one of the most famous current duos in the NBA belongs to the LA Lakers, LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
LeBron James in having an MVP season in Los Angeles
Everyone we just mentioned is an NBA great, that’s clear. But, no doubt, many of the eyes are set in Staples Center, where LeBron James finally got the ally he was looking for, Anthony Davis. Not only that, but the former Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat star, at the age of 35 and in his 17th season in the league, is having MVP numbers, once again.
Let’s compare his numbers now, vs. his 4 previous MVP seasons:
– 2008-2009: 28.4 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 7.2 apg
– 2009-2010: 29.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 8.6 apg
– 2011-2012: 27.1 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 6.2 apg
– 2012-2013: 26.8 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 7.3 apg
– This season: 25.7 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 10.6 apg (leads the NBA)
So, is King James going to get his 4th ring at the end of this season?
As always, the main concern is for him to stay healthy; if he does, and Davis does as well, the chances are pretty good for the Lakers, #1 in the West and showing off some of that Showtime Lakers style from the 80’s. The team has enough depth and experience, plus the chemistry and hunger for the title.
The Lakers biggest obstacles are Giannis and the Bucks, Kawhi and his Clippers, and Harden and his Rockets. But do these teams have what it takes to beat “Playoffs Bron” in a 7-game series? That’s where the balance tips in the Lakers’ favor, for many. LeBron’s basketball IQ, his dominance, the Lakers team itself, has everything it takes for them to beat anyone in a best-of-seven series.
