Pittsburgh Steelers at Buffalo Bills Betting Preview & Free Pick

December 10, 2020
Josh Allen will face the Steelers

Fortunes can change overnight in the NFL, and that is what is happening to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Just a few days ago, we were wondering if they could become the second team in NFL history to go 16-0 through the regular season and the first-ever to finish a season 19-0.

Then the Washington Football Team went to Pittsburgh and knocked off the Steelers, and now they are in Buffalo as an underdog and fighting to stay as the AFC’s top seed.

Buffalo, for its part, still very much remains in the running for one of the top seeds, and Josh Allen is inserting his name in the MVP race.

The Line: Steelers at Bills (-2.5)

After a Wednesday game followed by a Monday game, the Steelers return to Sunday football (assuming the schedule sees no further alterations this week). This is the toughest game that has been on their schedule thus far.

In fact, it’s just the third time this season that Pittsburgh has been the underdog. They were dogs against the Titans and Ravens in Weeks 7 and 8, and the Steelers won both of those outright.

The Bills have been much more under the radar, playing as the underdog in three of their last four games. They are just a Hail Murray away from being unbeaten over that stretch.

When online bettors have taken the Bills at home against the spread this year, they’ve won four and lost just twice.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers defense is still one of the best in football, and Ben Roethlisberger continues to play like a quarterback reborn following last year’s elbow injury. But Pittsburgh’s running game is becoming a problem, and it’s what cost them against Washington. The Steelers averaged just 1.5 yards per carry in Monday’s loss.

Injuries may be taking a toll, as the Steelers played a second straight game without running back James Conner and center Maurkice Pouncey. They also played their first full game without injured edge rusher Bud Dupree, and in the decisive second half against Washington, the Steelers did not record a sack.

Conner has been activated again, however, and should be back in the line-up for this match.

Buffalo Bills

The corner has officially been turned by Allen. Last year, the Bills made it to the playoffs in spite of Allen’s passing, as he completed only 58% of his passes and threw just 20 touchdowns.

This season, the Bills are first place in the AFC East because of Allen’s passing. He’s completing 68% of his passes and has already thrown 26 touchdowns.

Add Stefon Diggs to the mix, a running game led by rookie Devin Singletary, and you get an offense that can win games even when the defense doesn’t play its best.

Take Buffalo to Cover

As impressive as 11 straight wins are, the Steelers have looked like a very good team, and not a great one. Sloppy wins against inferior opponents finally caught up to them last weekend as they took their first loss.

As the Week 14 NFL odds indicate, they are now matched up against a very good team in Buffalo that does well against the spread at home. The Bills are rolling, and they will beat the Steelers on Sunday by at least four points.
