2021 Wimbledon Men’s & Women’s Odds and Predictions

June 16, 2021
Wimbledon Odds and Picks

The summer fortnight in London will begin on June 28 and conclude on July 11 as the Championships, more commonly known as Wimbledon, will take place. The Grand Slam tennis event was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus. It was the first time the tournament was cancelled since World War II.

Heading into the 2021 tournament, the men’s field is dominated by the world’s No. 1 player, Novak Djokovic. The women’s field is more wide open. Several of the world’s top players were forced out of the recent French Open, most due to injuries. Barbora Krejcikova was an upset winner at Roland Garros. The potential is there for the same to happen at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Men’s Favorite

Djokovic is simply the most dominant player in the world right now. He has won the Australian Open and the French Open thus far this season. With a win at Wimbledon, he could be on his way to winning all four Grand Slam events in one year. The last player to do that was Rod Laver.

It’s no surprise that Djokovic is the men’s favorite at +125. He is the defending champion after all. In fact, he has won the last two titles at Wimbledon. Djokovic has won five overall among his 19 Grand Slam tournament victories.

Djokovic is the world’s No. 1-ranked player and has been for 325 weeks. Wimbledon is his to lose. Bettors should jump on him at +125. He will not be priced at plus-money for long. Visit top rated online sportsbooks now

Men’s Contenders

Djokovic defeated Stefano Tsitsipas at the French Open. Tsitsipas is listed at +750 to win in London. He’s only 22 and he’s never made it past the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Daniil Medvedev is another young contender in the mix. He lost to Djokovic in the Australian Open finals this year and was eliminated in the quarterfinal at Roland Garros by Tsitsipas. Medvedev has a powerful serve, but grass isn’t his best surface. Still, he is priced at +650 to win.

The two true contenders that could beat Djokovic in London have a combined 10 Wimbledon titles. Roger Federer has eight of them. Federer’s most recent win at Wimbledon was in 2017, but he is 39 years old and not the same player as he once was. It could be his swan song and Federer is given +650 odds to win.

Nadal (+700) has two Wimbledon titles to his credit (2008 and 2010). Since winning in 2010, Nadal’s best finishes at Wimbledon have been his last two. He made the semifinals in both 2018 and 2019.

Women’s Favorites

The women’s overall favorite at Wimbledon is Naomi Osaka who withdrew from the French Open citing mental health issues. Osaka is listed at +550, but it is not even known yet whether or not she will play.

Osaka recently dropped out of the Berlin WTA 5000, a grass court tournament that would have prepped Osaka for Wimbledon.

World No.1 Ashleigh Barty (+650) was among several players that dropped out of the French Open due to injury. Barty was suffering from a hip injury.

Women’s Contenders

Petra Kvitova, who has won two Wimbledon titles, was also forced out at Roland Garros due to injury. Kvitova is listed at +900 and should be recovered from the ankle injury.

Defending Wimbledon champion Simona Halep (+1200) suffered a calf injury and withdrew from the French Open. She has been rehabbing the injury and, if healthy, is a great value pick.

Garbine Muguruza (+1000) is another strong contender who has won at Wimbledon in the past. Muguruza was upset in the first round of the French Open. She won Wimbledon in 2017.

Krejcikova was a huge longshot to win the French Open, but she did. She enters this tournament as a +3300 longshot along with the player she defeated, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, to win at Roland Garros.

Predictions

There is no question as to the men’s side of the tournament. Barring a huge upset, Djokovic wins his third straight Wimbledon title and makes it a round 20 Grand Slam championships. The win also moves him closer to tennis legend – four Grand Slams in the same year.

The women’s tournament is more wide open. It does, however, leave the door open for some big paydays for bettors. Halep, the defending champ, offers good value at +1200 as does Kvitova at +1000. Add in seven-time winner Serena Williams at +750 and there are plenty of choices.

With the uncertainty of Osaka and some injuries to consider, play Halep if healthy.
