NFL Number One Overall Draft Pick Odds

January 5, 2024
Overall number one draft NFL odds

It seemed like a forgone conclusion just a few months ago when USC was 6-0 and Caleb Williams was the front-runner for the his second Heisman that he would be the #1 overall NFL draft choice. And even though he is still the heavy favorite, some doubt has crept in. The Trojans would go on to lose 5 of their next 7 games as the wheels completely came off. Williams wasn’t even invited to the Heisman ceremony. Still, odds are in his favor that he will be the top player taken in 2024.

Drake Maye is #2 and rightly so. The kid may not be as accomplished as Caleb Williams but he is all upside potential. He is big, fairly accurate and has a canon for an arm. He’s just 21 years old and a team could get 15 years out of this guy if he develops well. Think Phillip Rivers.

Marvin Harrison Jr. is called the best receiver in the country by many sports talking heads. He is bigger and taller than his Hall of Fame father and has some of the same moves and matching speed. Whoever drafts this guy will get a playmaker right out of the box and not have to wait for him to develop.

We can actually see the first three picks in the draft going exactly in order as the odds below. Williams #1, Maye #2 and Harrison #3. Chicago may trade out of their #1 spot to because they have Justin Fields and can get some value from that move. They need offensive lineman the most so a trade down later in the round makes perfect sense.

The New England Patriots have the #3 spot and we can easily see them trading up one or two spots to secure a franchise caliber QB. As it stands they do not have that player on their current roster. They could easily trade their #1,#2 and a late round pick to move up just one or two spots. If they don’t do this they will not get Maye or Williams and may have to look at Ewers, Daniels or Nix.
