NFL Wild-Card Green Bay at Dallas FREE PICK

January 11, 2024

It’s two of the marquee franchises in the annals of the NFL meeting in a Sunday afternoon playoff game at Arlington. A 2-7 NFC seeding affair has the 9-7 Green Bay Packers opposing the 12-5 (East champion) Dallas Cowboys.

This was supposed to be a rebuilding year in Titletown, but the Packers won their final three games to finish above .500, sneaking into the postseason with the final berth.

Dallas stumbled a bit down the stretch, but not nearly as much as the Philadelphia Eagles. Thus, the NFC East went to Texas.

Dallas is a touchdown favorite (total at 50½), according to NFL odds.

Moneyline is Cowboys -375, Packers at +295.

Green Bay is leading the all-time series (including postseason), 21-17 (four in row, nine-of-10).

Love the Packers

The Green Bay Packers took a big risk in turning over the reins to quarterback Jordan Love. Love (4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, 11 interceptions) is leading the least-experienced team in the NFL this season. He was as good as anyone in the season’s second half (18 touchdowns, one interception in last eight).

Wide receivers Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed had a combined 123 receptions, each with eight touchdowns.

An injury-plagued Aaron Jones (team-leading 656 rushing yards in 11 games) returned with a vengeance (358 yards in last three), making the job of Love a bit easier.

Getting stops on defense has been an issue, though (335.1 yards/game, 17th in NFL).

Cowboys are Homebodies

CeeDee LambThe Dallas Cowboys have been invincible at home, running the table (8-0) this season and with 16 wins in a row. Overall team stats have the Dallas Cowboys averaging 37.4 points per game at home (23.3 points/game road). Opponents are averaging five fewer points (15.9 versus 20.9) when visiting Dallas.

Quarterback Dak Prescott (4,516 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, nine interceptions) enjoyed a solid regular season, but is well aware he (2-4 in playoffs) has to prove it in the second season.

CeeDee Lamb (135 receptions, 1,749 yards, 12 touchdowns) was one of the best wideouts in the league, highlighted by a 13-catch, 227-yard effort against the Detroit Lions.

Running back Troy Pollard (1,005 yards, six touchdowns) had just one 100-yard game (Week 3) this season, but is the best backfield option.

Defensively, there were 46 sacks and countless pressures of opposing quarterbacks. Cornerback DaRon Bland (five pick-sixes this season) is one of an array of playmakers.

‘Boys to Cruise

It’s been a generation since the Cowboys’ last trip to the title game in the conference.

Dallas is 16-5 (+320) to win the NFC, Green Bay at 40-1 (+4000), as per NFL conference odds.

The Green Bay Packers had a terrific finish to the season, coming into this game with momentum. However, the playoffs are a completely different animal.

Quarterback Jordan Love has played well in the second half, but this overall Green Bay offense is no match. Dallas has a defense that can take over a game, with an offense that can flip the scoreboard in a hurry.

Perhaps a seven-point number seems too large in this game, but the Cowboys find a way. Dallas is too good at home, and will want to make a statement in this game.

Take the Dallas Cowboys -7 over the Green Bay Packers. Go over as well.
