2025 Preakness Odds – Kentucky Derby Winner Sitting Out

Keeping in line with a strategy we’ve seen more of in recent years, the 2025 Kentucky Derby winner “Sovereignty” will be skipping the second leg of the horse racing triple crown. Sovereignty is the fourth of the last seven Derby winners who will have skipped the chance to wheel back two weeks later at Pimlico. “Country Horse” in 2019, Mandaloun in 2021, and Rich Strike in 2022 all skipped the second race so that they could recover and plan for The Belmont Stakes.
Trainer Bill Mott said, “We want to do what’s best for the horse. Of course, you always think about a Triple Crown, and that’s not something we’re not going to think about.”
Sovereignty went at 9-1 odds this past weekend. We had two longshot picks which didn’t cash. Oh well, on to the next race. On Sat, May 17, 2025 – 10 horses are schedule to run at Preakness. We have the odds below:
