Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford Bout is Set

James Willis | May 7, 2025
Canelo vs Bud fight preview

It’s on. Mexico’s Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is set to oppose American Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford Sept. 12th at Allegiant Stadium (home of the NFL’s Raiders) in Las Vegas. That’s after Alvarez took back the undisputed super-middleweight title with a ‘methodical’ (or ‘awful,’ depending on your perspective) unanimous decision over William Scull in Saudi Arabia.

It may well be the biggest event on the boxing fight calendar, featuring arguably the marquee names in the sport.

It’s not exactly a case of youth being served, however. Crawford is 37 and undefeated, 41-0 with 31 knockouts. He’s a four-division/two-weight champ who is ‘putting on pounds’ (about 14, to be exact) in order to fight Alvarez.

Alvarez, 34, has a record of 63-2 (with two draws), 39 of the wins by knockout. winning his last five. He’s a perfect 10-0 in the super middleweight class as well as the legit choice in this bout. He has opened at approximately 4-9 (-230) on the board, Crawford at around 9-5 (+180).

I feel great,” Alvarez said post-fight in the desert ahead of Canelo’s next fight. “Crawford is one of the best out there, and it’s my pleasure to share the ring.” The two indeed shared the ring after the Scull bout, making their encounter official while doing the obligatory snarling.

Crawford hasn’t fought since a unanimous decision over Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles last August. Prior to that, he hadn’t been in the ring since July of 2023.

Here’s a bit of a primer on Alvarez vs Crawford in the biggest non-heavyweight fight in quite some time…

How Many Losses Does Canelo Alvarez Have?

As was mentioned, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez enters the ring against Terence Crawford with a record of 63-2 (with two draws), winning his last five. His losses have come against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013 and Dmitry Bivol in 2022. That’s the Canelo fight resume.

Who Is Canelo Fighting in May 2025?

It was this past Saturday (May 3rd) that Canelo easily outpointed William Scull in Saudi Arabia, clawing back the undisputed super middleweight title. Observers didn’t think much of the fight, as Scull spent much of it avoiding contact. In the history of boxing fights, this wasn’t among the highlights

Does BetUS Offer Constant Updates on Boxing Betting Odds?

Any Final Thoughts?

Anyone who pays even marginal attention to boxing news and boxing rumors is acutely aware of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford opposing each other in Las Vegas with the super middleweight belt of Alvarez on the line. It’s the champ opening as the strong wagering favorite on the board. As of this early-May writing, all the particulars (fight time, undercards, etc.) are TBA/. What’s not TBA is our mantra of ‘do your homework.” Odds are fluid. Procure as much information as possible, essential if you’re going to gain any advantage against the board.
