Derek Carr Announces Retirement – Saints Super Bowl Odds Drop

Facing a shoulder surgery which would keep him out the entire upcoming season, Saints QB Derek Carr announces his retirement at 34 years old and 11 seasons in the league.
What was once a very promising career, with hopes of a Super Bowl win and Hall of Fame induction is no more.
Though his statline is impressive and he has had some success in his career, Derek Carr would probably be the first to admit his career didn’t unfold like he had hoped. The four-time Pro-Bowler only posted winning records in three of his eleven seasons, finishing with a W/L record of 77-92 as a starter.
Carr threw for 252 TD’s vs only 11 Interceptions and over 40,000 yards. His best season was 2016 where he finished with a record of 12-3 as a starter, threw for 28 TD’s and just 6 picks, before being knocked out for the year. He finished 3rd in the MVP race that season. It was pretty much downhill after that.
His overall record in the playoffs was just 0-1 and that single game was in the 2021 playoffs.
The Saints signed him 2 years ago and with the team from New Orleans where he finished with a 14-13 record overall, throwing 40 TD’s to just 13 picks.
Odds before Carr announced his retirement were pretty long for the Saints at +17,500 at most sportsbooks. Odd shave since dropped down to +25,000, making the Saints the second from the bottom to win the Super Bowl.
Second round NFL draft pick Tyler Shough from Louisville will most likely take over the reins at QB unless the Saints bring someone in. They may want to look at Cleveland’s QB room to pick up any castoffs from that groups which currently has Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders.
