The OKC Thunder Are Set to Start a Dynasty

If you’re a fan of the dearly departed SuperSonics, then don’t continue reading this.
Having finished the 2024-25 regular season with a league and franchise-best record of 68-14, it’s the current-day Seattle Sonics, aka the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are heavily favored in NBA playoffs odds to win the franchise’s first title since leaving the Pacific Northwest (Seattle was champs in 1979).
Historians note the Sonics left town after the 2007-08 season.
Rolling through the season with an average margin of +12½ points (that’s not just wins), OKC had experienced a few NBA playoffs hiccups en route to its Western Conference title.
Starting with a four-game sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies, then struggling (seven games) against the Denver Nuggets before disposing of the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games (the Thunder lost that one game by 42 points).
OKC silenced those critics about its performance during past postseasons. It lost in the Western Conference semis last season and hadn’t reached a conference final since the 2015-16 season. There’s been one (2012) Finals appearance, a loss (five games) to the Miami Heat.
As of this writing, with the Eastern championship still undecided, it’s the Thunder as 1-8 (-800) favorites to defeat either the Indiana Pacers or New York Knicks.
Is This the Making of a Dynasty?
First things first. Subject to any late change, here is the 2025 NBA Finals schedule …
Game 1 – Thursday, June 5th.
Game 2 – Sunday, June 8th.
Game 3 – Wednesday, June 11th.
Game 4 – Friday, June 13th.
Game 5 – Monday, June 16th.
Game 6 – Thursday, June 19th.
Game 7 – Sunday, June 22nd.
(Note that Games 5,6, and 7 are, if necessary, with the Thunder hosting Games 1,2,5, and 7 and the Pacers/Knicks team hosting Games 3, 4, and 6).
Here’s a bit of a primer on what’s left of the NBA playoffs of 2025…
Who Is the New Owner of the Oklahoma City Thunder?
The Oklahoma City Thunder are technically the Professional Basketball Club LLC, with Clay Bennett as its chairman (there was another part-owner [Aubrey McClendon] who died after driving at a high speed into a wall a day after being federally indicted in March of 2016, but that’s another story).
Who Is the Best Thunder Player Right Now?
It’s low-hanging fruit to choose Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the MVP of the league in 2024-25.
In his seventh season in the NBA, SGA ended 24-’25, averaging 32.7 points to lead the league.
Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder are entering the Finals having won 80 NBA games to date this season (68 in the regular season, 12 in the playoffs).
SGA is averaging just under 30 points per game in these playoffs.
This was a rookie (2018-19 with the Los Angeles Clippers via the Charlotte Hornets) who averaged less than 11 points per game.
Does BetUS Offer Constant Updates on NBA Games Betting Lines?
Indeed, and it’s not subject to NBA rumors. There are game and series NBA playoffs odds available, along with props around individual games and the length of what remains of the East finals (Indiana was leading New York, 3-1, as of this writing) and Finals. There’s also a board with the biggest individual postseason award, the MVP of the Finals (honoring Bill Russell).
Any Final Thoughts?
Anyone who pays even marginal attention to the NBA schedule is actually aware of the Oklahoma City Thunder. They are playing compelling games with exciting chances to make some money. Continuing to invoke the phrase ‘do your homework’ because it’s essential if you’re going to gain any possible advantage against the NBA games odds.
