Aaron Rodgers and The Steelers – What You Should Know

Scott Morris | June 24, 2025
Aaron Rodgers and Steelers stats and odds

When the Steelers parted ways with both quarterbacks early in the off-season, many fans thought they went mad. But, as per the rumor mill, they had been planning on signing veteran QB and 4X MVP Aaron Rodgers all along.

Steelers ownership and coaching is under the impression that they have a championship ready team and all they really need is a championship caliber QB. Rodgers has a Super Bowl ring that he earned almost 15 years ago, against the Pittsburgh Steelers coincidentally. His career has been very impressive, but his teams typically fall apart in the playoffs.

Despite throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 TD’s and just 11 interceptions, Rodgers’ NY Jets went just 5-12 last season. They were pretty much a terrible team. This was not enough to dissuade Mike Tomlin from going after him. I believe that this is a “last hurrah” for Tomlin. And Aaron Rodgers himself admitted this is most likely his last season earlier this week. He made this statement during an interview on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

However, if the Steelers make a deep run into the playoffs I could definitely see both coach and QB coming back for one more season. If the Steelers fail to do well this year, I think both Tomlin and Rodgers will be out.

Unfortunately for the Steelers, oddsmakers and the general public aren’t very confident in their chances to win the Super Bowl. This is reflected by the +4000 odds currently hanging on the board at top sportsbooks. They are about halfway down the odds sheet which reflects the general consensus that they will be a mediocre team. In fact, their season wins over/under is sitting at 8.5 wins. To win the conference, the Steelers are +2000 odds.

Aaron Rodgers is 41 years old. In years past, quarterbacks would be well retired by this point. Marino was done at 37. Steve Young hung it up at 38, and Joe Montana was 38 as well. But in recent years, quarterbacks seem to have a little more of a lifespan. Drew Brees was 42 when he retired and Tom Brady was 45. With all this said, there is no doubt in my mind that this year or next year will certainly be Aaron Rodgers last season. He doesn’t move like he used to, and the hits hurt more than they used to.

Predicted State Line

Below are predictions using AI of how Rodgers’ stats will look at season’s end.

Completions/Attempts: ~360/550 (65% completion rate)

  • Rodgers completed 63% of his passes in 2024 with the Jets (368/584). A slight uptick is possible with a better offensive line and Metcalf as a target, but his accuracy on intermediate and short throws has declined.

Passing Yards: ~3,800–4,000

  • In 2024, Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards. Projections range from 3,549 (ESPN’s Mike Clay over 15 games) to 3,795 (Washington Post’s regression model). A 3,800–4,000-yard season aligns with his recent output and the Steelers’ moderate pass volume.

Touchdowns: 23–28

  • Rodgers threw 28 TDs in 2024. Projections suggest 19 (Clay) to 28 (Washington Post). The Steelers’ run-first approach and lack of elite secondary receivers may limit TD opportunities, but Metcalf’s deep-threat ability could help. A range of 23–28 is realistic.

Interceptions: 10–12

  • Rodgers had 11 INTs in 2024. Projections estimate 10–12, reflecting his careful ball-handling but also occasional risks under pressure. The Steelers’ 35-13 record when turning the ball over once or less highlights the importance of this stat.

MVP Odds

Aaron Rodgers is way down on the list for Most Valuable Player odds. He is sitting at +6000 odds at BetOnline.ag. He has 18 players ahead of him on this odds sheet. Is it worth throwing a hundo on Rodgers and hoping he has a bang out season? Perhaps. He has won the award 4 times before and last season his stats were fairly impressive. If he puts up 4000+ yards, 40+ TDs and the Steelers finish 12-5 or better, he will have a real shot of winning the award. Your $100 suddenly turns into $6K!
