Wintoro Sportsbook is Closed

A small Costa Rican sportsbook named WinToro.ag is no more. The sportsbook has a very brief run online having registered its domain name in November of 2022 and going offline earlier this year. The domain is set to expire in 2 months.
No reason was provided at their website about the reason for the shutdown and any email we send to them bounces. In fact, the website is offline completely.
The sportsbook was described on other sports betting news sites using the following text: “If you are a fan of sports betting then you are in luck as the sportsbook is where Wintoro Casino excels. Coming with more than 30 sports, a plethora of advanced betting options (point spreads, money lines, props bets, totals, etc.), some of the most competitive odds in the business, live betting, several odds types, and more, the Wintoro sportsbook experience is player-friendly, cutting-edge, and highly intuitive.”
It had an “average” rating at those same sportsbook news and review websites. The only “negative” listed on those other sites was that WinToro lacked a license in its country of operation. Perhaps this is what led to its demise. Or maybe they simply got beat by the betting public.
Starting a sportsbook isn’t a license to print money. Some of them operate in the red for years before profiting or breaking even.
The house advantage in sports betting, often called the “vig” or “juice,” typically ranges from 4% to 10%, depending on the bet type and sportsbook. Numerically, this is reflected in the odds or payout structure.
If the sportsbook doesn’t balance their action and make profit from the vig alone, this opens them up to higher risk of losing the house bankroll.
