2025 Kansas Jayhawks Season Preview and Betting Odds

Coach Lance Leipold returns for his fifth season with the Jayhawks. The team saw steady improvement year-over-year until last season when the Jayhawks stook a step back. They finished just 5-7 on the season. This year will pretty much decide what happens between the Jayhawks and Coach Leipold moving forward.
Kansas is only returning six starters from last year, but they have also brought in some talent through the portal. Dual threat QB Jalon Daniels is back. Last season he threw for 14 TDs but also had 12 interceptions, but he also ran for 439 yards and 6 TDs.
Defense will be anchored by Dean Miller, DJ Withers, Tommy Dunn Jr., and Blake Harold. But they have their work cut out for them as they were pretty awful last season:
- Scoring Defense: 10th in the Big 12.
- Total Defense: 12th in the Big 12.
- Rushing Defense (Yards per Carry): 12th in the Big 12.
- Passing Defense (Yards per Attempt): 12th in the Big 12.

Honestly, the schedule isn’t that difficult. There isn’t a single juggernaut on there where you would count it an automatic loss. For instance, if they were playing Georgia, Texas or Penn State.
The best teams on their schedule are Iowa State and Kansas State, ranked #17 and #22 in the AP poll respectively. Kansas should pick up a few easy wins but will have its hands full with almost every team on the schedule. I can see a 6 win/6 loss sort of season here.
Kansas is +30,000 to win the national championship. Although I love a great longshot, this is one I wouldn’t play.
