2025 Virginia Tech Football Preview – Odds – Predictions

Scott Morris | August 26, 2025
Kyron Drones

Virginia Tech was something of a powerhouse just a couple decades ago. They even made it to a national championship game. But it has been tough sledding for the Hokies ever since. They have had flashes of brilliance then immediately fall back off. Hokies fans are a diehard bunch. They love their team. But they deserve better than what they’ve been getting in recent years.

The 2024 Va. Tech Hokies finished the season with just a 6-7 record overall and 4-4 in the ACC. From that team, the Hokies only have 7 returning starters. Star QB Kyron Drones missed a big chunk of last season due to injury but is back this year. His off-season training buddy is none other than Cam Ward.

OK, so we have 7 returning starters on a team that was mediocre. That means the Hokies are going to suck this year, right? Not so fast. The Hokies went to the portal and loaded up with some solid talent. They picked up three solid Offensive linemen, 2 good WR’s, a RB, and 4 good defensive players.

QB1 Kyron Drones has over 1,000 yards and 11 TD’s rushing the last two seasons (combined). He also threw for 27 TD’s/9 int’s in that same time span. He is a big strong young man who will put games on his shoulders. He should be able to put together a strong season and declare for the draft afterward.

BetOnline.ag has the season win total set at 6.5 games (Over +120, Under -150)

Overall, 7 wins feels realistic—better than 2024’s disappointments but short of playoff hype. The portal addresses holes, but execution in close games (key to ACC success) will decide if they exceed expectations. Enter the season with cautious optimism; Lane Stadium’s atmosphere could steal 1-2 extra wins.

Betting Odds of Va Tech winning the national championship are +75,000. That is a huge number. If I were a diehard Hokies fan, I would probably throw a hundred on them every single season just to sweeten the pot a little. It’s basically a lotto ticket at that point and with similar odds. But as a serious bettor I wouldn’t bet any money on Hokies futures.
