2025 Cleveland Browns Season Preview – Odds – Prediction

Oh… the Browns. Years go by and then change but one thing remains constant, the Browns are a rudderless ship. Yes, this team has some top tier talent on its roster but even if they had the best roster in the league there is little doubt it would be squandered.
The Browns have mastered the art of making terrible decisions and gaslighting their fans into thinking that this is the year things will change. They are still saddled with the worst contract signing in NFL history. They will be paying for that contract for a long time. Yes, I’m talking about Deshaun Watson, who is currently listed as “Out”, and the Browns will be starting Joe Flacco in game 1.
The quarterback situation has been something of clown show most years, but this year takes the cake. The Browns drafted two QBs in this year’s NFL draft. These of course are Dillon Gabriel out of Oregon & Shedeur Sanders from Colorado. The Sanders signing has brought significant media coverage because he is Deion Sanders’s son. If you recall, the QB was taken late in the NFL draft which led to accusation that there was some conspiracy again him. Well, Shedeur will not be suiting up Sunday as he is #3 on depth chart.
The #1 ball carrier will be Jerome Ford. Last year Ford had just 565 yards and 3 TDs. The wide receiving corps is pretty solid with Jerry Jeudy, Cedric Tillman & James Thrash. Tight End is solid too with David Njoku.
The offensive line is ranked 27th by Pro Football Focus, because there are significant concerns about age and injuries to the veteran starters. It won’t be a disaster on the offensive line but if they lose a couple of these guys to injury it will quickly turn into one.
The Browns have one of the top 3 defensive ends in the league in Myles Garrett. He signed a massive deal after threating to leave this offseason. Myles Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Cleveland Browns in March 2025, averaging $40 million per season and making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL at the time.
The Browns’ linebackers are considered good but not elite, ranking as a solid, above-average unit for the 2025 season. The defensive backfield is also ranked in the middle of the NFL pack.
So, what do we have? We have a team who spent a ton of money the last several years (the kind of money you spend when you are making a solid one or two years run at the Super Bowl) who actually have no chance at making it to the Super Bowl.
Joe Flacco did an admirable job coming out of retirement a few years ago to guide the Brown into the playoffs but the magic will not work this time. I’d expect to see the Browns going to their bench quite early in the season when Flacco struggles. We will probably get to see both Gabriel and Sanders throw passes this year.

Prediction
The total games won over/under of 5.5 is the perfect number. It could easily fall on either side of that number. If I were forced to pick one side of that number, I’ll go ahead and take the over. There is enough talent on this team to get some surprise wins, but they will not be a threat for any sort of championship of any kind.
The Browns are in dire need of help. They seem to make decisions which leave everyone scratching their head. The decisions are usually terrible, and they don’t seem to really know what they are doing.
