Updated NFL MVP Odds After Week 6

The season has been a seesaw of emotions for many teams and fans. Some teams came out of the gate looking like they had all the talent it would take to win 15 or 16 games this year. The Bills, for instance, pulled off a fantastic comeback against the Ravens. They won their first 4 games but have since dropped 2 in a row to mediocre teams (Patriots & Falcons).

The Colts, Steelers & Bucs are all top 5 teams in the league, to the surprise of many. But they were not a surprise to us. We even encouraged our dear readers to wager on the Over 10.5 wins (+275) on the Steelers at the start of the season. We also said bettors should consider throwing down a small wager on the Steelers winning it all (+4000) as well as Aaron Rodgers to win the MVP at +7500 (at BetOnline).  A few laughed, but they are not laughing now.

All Aaron Rodgers has done is guide his Steelers to a 4-1 record while throwing for 1,021 yards with a 68% completion rate, 10 TD’s and just 3 Int’s. There is still a lot of seasons left but if the Steelers continue on this path, they can end the season at 13-4 with Rodgers throwing for 3500+ yards, 33 TD’s and 9 INT’s. These numbers aren’t outrageous but if the Steelers end up as the 1 seed in the playoffs, Rodgers should seriously be considered for the MVP award. Sportsbooks currently have him as high as +17,500 odds to win MVP. They are idiots. Small bet on Rodgers to make it interesting.

Baker or Bust

QB Baker Mayfield, once cast to the dark alleys of NFL has-been has made a major resurgence since joining the Bucstwo seasons ago. His number and play were impressive last year but this year he has been lights out. Last weekend he set a new record for only having 5 incompletions while throwing for 375+ yards. He competes harder than anyone on the field and his heart and soul are in the game. No one can deny that.

As of right now, the Bucs are 5-1 overall with 4 come-from-behind wins. He has thrown for a 66% completion rate, 1,539 yards, 12 TD’s and just one pick. He is currently the most popular player at sportsbooks as far as NFL bettors are concerned. If he keeps up this pace, he will be a shoo-in for the award. Imagine if he finishes on his current trajectory of 4500 yards, 36 TDs and just 3 picks and the Bucs are 15-2. Oh, and throw 450+ yards rushing into that mix to cap it off.
