Major League Baseball Notes: Hot, Cold and Over/Under

May 16, 2016

The Major League Baseball regular season is long and needless to say, teams will go through winning streaks and losing streaks. For bettors it is great to catch a team on a winning streak or a losing streak to ride the wave to its end.

That also includes pitchers as they too get hot or go cold during the course of the, as do the offense for each club.

Here is a look at some of those current streaks heading into Monday’s games.

Hot Streak

The league’s hottest team is the New York Yankees having won 7 of their past 10 games overall. The Yankees are last in the American League East but won two of three against the streaking Chicago White Sox the leaders in the AL Central.

Cold Streak

The Detroit Tigers are just 2-11 over their past 13 games. The Tigers avoided being swept on Sunday by Baltimore with a road win of 6-5. Detroit has played 12 of its past 15 games on the road, but now has 9 straight at home.

Hot on the Mound

The hottest pitcher in baseball is J.A. Happ from the Toronto Blue Jays. Happ is 5-0 with an ERA of 2.05 and has seven quality starts already this season.

Cold on the Mound

Cleveland Indians pitcher Cody Anderson has started this season very slow. He is 0-3 with an ERA of 7.31. The right-hander will start Monday for the first time since May 7. In each of his last five starts, Anderson has given up four or more earned runs.

UNDER cashing in

The Philadelphia Phillies have cashed under in 4 of their past 6 games home. The Phillies gave up 9 runs on Sunday to Cincinnati, which were the most runs allowed over their past 13 games. The Phillies play the Marlins on Monday and are 5-1 on the UNDER in their past 6 games versus Miami.

OVER cashing in

During the past seven games played by the Boston Red Sox, the OVER has cashed in each game. Boston’s offense had an incredible home stand scoring 73 runs in its seven games, with the OVER cashing in each. The Red Sox however cashed UNDER in four of their past six road games and start a road series Monday in Kansas City.

Oakland is 1-4 this season in series openers at home, compared to 5-2 in series openers on the road.

In Monday’s games, the biggest favorite is the Los Angeles Dodgers at -180 over the Los Angeles Angels. The biggest underdog is Tampa Bay at +115 at Toronto.
