nba weekend preview

For sports bettors, this is a great time of year as football betting on the pro and college side is really starting to heat up, while action is also beginning to tip off on the hardwood. NBA betting players will have a solid slate of games to choose from, and here are five games that we’ll have an eye on this weekend.

Magic Wizards Betting – Saturday, 7:00 PM ET
The first-place Magic should be the NBA betting favorite on the road in this clash of Southeast Division opponents, as they’ve won four of their last five in Washington, posting the same record ATS. Washington is turning out to be a decent team at home, going 5-2 SU and 3-4 ATS, while the Magic are a disappointing 0-5 ATS away from home this season and will be looking to turn that around. The Wizards may have a bit of an advantage as the Magic will host Cleveland on Friday night, while Washington had a day off after getting rolled by 20 points in Atlanta on Thursday night.

Heat Mavericks Betting –Saturday, 8:30 PM ET
The Mavericks should be the NBA betting favorites at home in this game, and it’s a tale of two stories for them in Dallas against the Heat: in the last five meetings, Dallas is 4-1 SU, but they’re 0-5 ATS. This season, the Mavericks are just 1-5-2 ATS at home, while the Heat are 2-4 ATS away from home, and they lost their only game as an underdog, so something has to give in this matchup. Both teams play on Friday night, as Miami looks to end a three-game skid when they host Philadelphia, while the Mavericks have a tough rivalry game at San Antonio, so the second half of this game will be crucial.

Spurs Hornets Betting – Sunday, 3:00 PM ET
The top two teams in the Southwest square off in New Orleans, where the Hornets should be a slight favorite at home. The Hornets are a solid 8-5-1 ATS at home this season, but the red-hot Spurs are 4-1-1 ATS away from home, and they’re also 2-0 as an underdog. The Spurs are 3-2 both SU and ATS in their last five trips to New Orleans, and this game should go down to the wire. If the Spurs win at home over Dallas on Friday, they’ll bring a 13-game winning streak into New Orleans, where the Hornets will be out to show they’re for real. Neither team will play on Saturday, so both should be rested.

Thunder Rockets Betting – Sunday, 7:00 PM ET
The Thunder should be the NBA betting favorites on the road against the struggling Rockets, who are 2-4 ATS at home, while Oklahoma City is 4-2 ATA away from home. But the Thunder have a major problem in Houston as they’ve dropped 10 straight games there, and they’re 3-6-1 ATS over that time period (their last win in Houston came in February 2005, when they were still in Seattle). Again, both teams are idle on Saturday, so they should be ready to come out hard on Sunday.

Suns Nuggets Betting – Sunday, 8:00 PM ET
The Nuggets should be the favorites at home, even though they’re just 2-4 ATS at the Pepsi Center this season. The Suns are 4-5 ATS away from home, and they’ve been pretty bad in Denver lately, going 1-4 SU and 2-3 ATS, with three of the games going over the posted total in your sportsbook. Denver isn’t a big fan of being favored, going 2-6 ATS, but they’ll be aiming to change that against the Suns, who are 4-6 ATS when they’re the underdog. Both have Saturday off after home games on Friday (the Suns host the Clippers, while the Nuggets will welcome Chicago to town), so they should be fired up, which means a high total in your sports betting book.
