NFL Week 1 Betting Recap

September 11, 2017

Two Monday Night Football Games remain to bring Week 1 of the NFL to a close, but here is a recap of the betting for the previous games during the first week of the NFL regular season.

Favorites were 8-5 straight up and 6-7 against the spread, while home teams were 5-8 SU and 7-6 ATS. The over/under surprisingly had just three games cash OVER, while 10 cashed UNDER.

The two biggest underdogs that won straight up were Kansas City +9 over New England 42-27 and Jacksonville +6 over Houston 29-27.

The two biggest favorites to cover were the Buffalo Bills -7.5 over the NY Jets 21-12 and the Dallas Cowboys -6 over the NY Giants 19-3.

Week 1 Bad Bet

It appeared that the Arizona-Detroit (48.5) game was headed for a certain UNDER after three quarters. Arizona entering the fourth quarter led by 17-15, but that is when the scoring began with Detroit scoring a pair of touchdowns to take a 28-17 lead.

However, it looked like the UNDER would still cash if Arizona would have gone for a field goal followed by an onside kick late, but Arizona was intercepted for a pick six and Arizona scored a late TD to make it even worse with the total reaching 58, after 26 points were scored in just the fourth period.

Over/Under for Week 1

Thursday night football’s point total between Kansas City and New England was 48 to start the game, but the teams combined to score 69 points. Most sportsbooks and bettors alike thought that was a prelude to the rest of Week 1.

That could not be any further from the truth as the UNDER proceeded to go 10-3 in Sunday’s games.

Two NFL games opened Sunday’s action with point totals over 50. Oakland vs Tennessee was 50.5 and Seattle vs Green Bay was 50. Both ended far below the mark. The Raiders and Titans combined to score 42 points and the Seahawks and Packers totaled just 26 after only 3 points were scored during the first half.
