NFL Week 6 Betting Recap

October 16, 2017
Saints and Lions combined for 90 points in Week 6

Week 6 of the NFL regular season is in the books except for Monday’s game between the Tennessee Titans and host Indianapolis Colts.

Here is a quick look at the betting results for the NFL this past weekend. Favorites did not fare well at 4-9 straight up and 2-11 against the spread. The home teams were 5-8 SU and ATS. The Over/Under was 7-6 for the week.

The three biggest dogs to win outright were Miami (+13.5) over Atlanta 20-17, New York Giants (+13) over Denver 23-10 and Chicago (+5.5) over Baltimore 27-24.

The two biggest favorites to cover the number were Houston (-7.5) over Cleveland 33-17 and New Orleans (-5.5) over Detroit 52-38.

The New York Jets came up short in their attempt to upset New England, but covered at home versus the Patriots for the fifth straight time. The Jets are now 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 games against New England. New York is 4-0 ATS in its last 4 games played overall.

Jacksonville lost 27-17 to the Los Angeles Rams with an odd trend continuing with the Jaguars. Jacksonville is 3-0 SU and ATS in weeks that are odd-numbered and 0-3 SU and ATS in weeks that are even numbered.

The Jaguars have a bye in two weeks which is an even number (Week8 8), and if they follow along with their trend will win and cover next week against Indianapolis on the road.

Point Totals

Sunday Night Football between the visiting New York Giants and host Denver Broncos had the week’s lowest closing point total at 37.5 due to many skill position players out injured for the Giants.

The Broncos defense was expected to shut the Giants offense down, but the result was the other way around. Only 33 points were scored with 23 by the Giants in their 23-10 upset at Denver.

The second lowest point total for the week was the Bears-Ravens at 39.5 and easily cashed to the over with the two needing to go to overtime to decide the winner. The game saw 21 points scored during the fourth quarter with Chicago eventually winning 27-24.

The Lions-Saints game was the highest total for the weekend at 50.5, and New Orleans covered that by itself in their 52-38 victory at home.
