What’s Hot and What’s Not

Scott Morris | February 6, 2015

If you are looking for NCAA basketball teams that are hot and ones that are not, look no further.

Making Money

Georgia Southern is not high on the radar but sharp bettors have played a great deal of attention to the high flying Eagles. Thus far, this season Georgia Southern is 11-2-1 against the number.

Pepperdine are a superb 14-4-2 ATS on the season. Stacy Davis the junior forward is leading the offense. Straight up the Waves are 14-8 but will have 5 of their last 7 games at home. On Saturday, the Waves were eight point dogs on the road and won outright 67-62 at Saint Mary’s.

Davidson is 13-4 ATS this season, but has not covered the number in two straight three of five. The reason why is its best player Jack Gibbs has been sidelined for four games. It is still not certain when Gibbs will return but the team has important contests with George Mason and Duquense coming up. When Gibbs returns to the lineup, Davidson is a strong choice ATS.

Burning Money

San Jose State has had it tough this entire season. The Spartans have the worst record against the spread in the nation at 3-14-2. Three players have had season ending injuries and three others have been dismissed. The entire starting backcourt is out and in its past 16 games SJS is 1-13-2 ATS.

Pittsburgh this season is 15-8 SU and has been a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament during the tenure of Jamie Dixon, but this season is just 5-14-1 ATS. Unless the team wins out or wins the ACC Tournament, they will likely not make it to the big dance in March. Regardless, they are not a strong play against the number.

Odds and Ends

Penn State is 7-0 ATS as an underdog on the season. The team will likely be underdogs in five of its final eight games during the regular season.

The OVER has cashed in seven consecutive games Pitt has played.

Florida is 1-5 ATS in its past 6 games. The OVER has cashed in 9 of the Gators past 11 games overall. The Gators will be ‘dogs at home for the first time in quite a while when Kentucky visits this weekend.
