Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl
Ball State vs. Central Florida
St. Petersburg Florida
Friday Night December 21, 2012
7:30 pm EST

qb-blake-bortlesThe Knights of Central Florida have been a little bit of an underachiever this year finishing at 9-4 in a conference that is weak. Unfortunately they had the misfortune of playing the best team in the conference, Tulsa, twice.  They lost to a much better Ohio State team and they lost to Missouri to which whom they were actually favored. They have some huge play makers on this team that could’ve put them in a much better bowl.  But the team didn’t quite play up to that potential. The Ball State Cardinals on the other hand were quite the opposite story.  They weren’t expected to do much this year and ended up with a healthy 9-3 record ripping off a slew of runs at the end of the season.  But in the only game this season against a top team, they got trounced 52-27. That team was Clemson.

Central Florida has the clear offensive advantage in this matchup.  QB Blake Bortles is a budding star and has NFL potential.  He threw for 22 TD’s and only 7 picks this season as a sophomore.  RB Jahwan Edwards is the main weapon for Ball State.  He is a solid runner. Look for them to try to get him 20+ carries.

Central Florida is a 7 point favorite in this game.  This game is essentially a home game for the Knights. It is being played only an hour or so drive from their campus which has the second largest student enrollment in the country.  Ball State hasn’t played a game in a month and Central Florida did just three weeks ago.  The surprise factor is gone for Ball State and Central Florida with head coach George O’Learey (remember him?) should  have no problem disposing of Ball State.

Suggestion: Medium to Medium/Strong play on Central Florida -7
