Betting Trends for AFC Wildcard Games

January 4, 2017

This weekend opens the NFL playoffs for the 2016-17 season with four wildcard games. Here is a quick look at the two AFC games.

Saturday January 7

Oakland at Houston

Houston opened as 2-point chalk with the total points sitting on 37. Bettors have moved that number to Houston -3.5 and the point total down to 36.5.

During the season, Oakland on the road was 6-2 straight up and against the spread. Houston at home was 6-2 SU and 4-3-1 ATS.

The two teams faced off in Mexico City during Week 11 with Oakland rallying to win late 27-20.

The biggest difference between this game and the first one the two teams played during Week 11 is Derek Carr, the Oakland star quarterback will not play on Saturday due to a broken leg.

The UNDER was 3-1 during Oakland’s last four games after seeing the OVER cashed in 10 of the first 12. Houston saw the UNDER cashed in 4 of its final 6 games and in 9 of its 16 during the season.

Sunday, January 8

Miami at Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh opened as 9.5-point chalk and the over/under total at 47. The current line has Pittsburgh -10 with the over/under total remaining on 47.

Miami on the road this season was 4-4 SU and 5-3 ATS. Pittsburgh at home was 6-2 SU and 4-4 ATS.

The two met during Week 6 in Miami with the Dolphins beating the short-handed Steelers 30-15. The win was the second straight win over Pittsburgh for the Dolphins, while Miami has covered three straight against the Steelers.

In Ben Roethlisberger’s career under center with Pittsburgh the star quarterback is 4-2 SU against Miami.

This is the first postseason trip for Miami since 2008. Pittsburgh is 11-6 during the postseason since Big Ben became quarterback, but just 2-3 when playing in the wildcard round.

The OVER was 12-4 during the regular season in Miami games including 5 of 8 on the road. Miami finished its season with 6 consecutive OVER tickets.

Pittsburgh saw the UNDER cash in 10 of 16 regular season games but the over/under was 4-4 at home.
