Super Bowl Streaker Will Not be Paid

February 13, 2021
Super Bowl streaker

When everyone on social media started sharing the streaker meme,  it immediately piqued my interest. The image claimed that he was a “betting genius” not some dumb criminal. It claimed he had placed a prop bet “Yes – There will be a streaker during the Super Bowl” at +750 odds. Immediately I knew this wasn’t going to go the way everyone thought it was.

Sportsbooks spend a lot of time thinking about how people will try to take advantage of them. They build in clauses in their “Terms & Conditions” pages which protect them if someone tries to scam them.

Anytime the person places a bet in which they are involved in the outcome, the bet will be voided. Think about it like this: What if Patrick Mahomes placed a bet on the Chiefs losing the game. Would you expect a sportsbook to pay him? No way.

So, the Super Bowl streaker places a prop bet that there will be a streaker during the game. He also tells his friends to place the bet as well. He then puts on a women’s bathing suit under his regular clothing. He also talks his buddy into distracting security so he can make it onto the field. He has everything planned. He is missing one thing, common sense.

A rep for Bovada, the sportsbook which he placed his bet, said the following: “Our players have always trusted us to ensure the integrity of all props offered in our sportsbook. We will continue to make sure that any publicity stunts or ill-intended behavior cannot adversely affect the outcome of a player’s wager.” This is all public speak for “We ain’t gonna pay it.”

Super Bowl Streaker

Wrong. He didn’t win until the sportsbook pays.

The entire thing is tantamount to “game fixing”. The sportsbook is right not to pay this out. No sportsbook in the world would do so after they found out the streaker was the one who placed the bet.

Now the guy is out the 500 bucks for his bail and will have a criminal record. The one good decision he made is that he did not get nude. Otherwise that would have landed him on the sexual offender list as well.

After an investigation, Bovada is voiding all streaker bets placed by anyone who had “inside knowledge of the streaking event”. All other streaker prop bets will be honored.
