Super Bowl 58 Futures Odds and Our Underdog Value Pick

Scott Morris | January 17, 2024
Super BOwl 58 pick

And then there were 8. The wild card round saw little excitement with only one close game: Detroit vs LA, which came down to the wire.  But the wil card weekend mostly saw blowout duds like KC vs Miami (26-7), Houston vs Cleveland (45-14), TB vs Philly (32-9), Green Bay vs Dallas (48-32, game wasn’t as close as score dictates), Buffalo vs Pittsburgh (31-17, Steelers never close to leading). The NFL is hoping for better action in week two in order to keep viewers attention and prevent them flipping away like many of them did during these bombs.

The 8 remining teams truly deserve to be in the playoffs and I have a hunch the action will improve. The Bucs have surprised everyone this week (year) and take their talents to Detroit to do battle with the Lions.  Detroit is -6.5 points in this matchup. Early money has come rolling in on the Lions according to top sportsbooks. We are siding with the public in this one. Take the cats to win and cover. The Bucs magical run ends this weekend.

We also like the futures odd for this Lions team at +950. After they beat the Bucs this weekend they will most likely have to travel to San Fran and deal with that team. That seems like a daunting task but San Fran has faltered at times this year. If they have a weakness it’s that the QB is “slumpy”. He can get himself into passing ruts where he makes more bonehead throws than good ones. Joe Burrow and the Bengals were able to beat the Niners in SF this season by pressuring Purdy into making bad throws. He threw two picks in that game and Frisco lost 31-17.  If the Lions can get Brock Purdy off kilter early, you can anticipate a good game. And if the Lions are for some reason getting a TD or more in this potential matchup, unload on them.

If the Lions make it to the Super Bowl, they can hang with any team the AFC puts up. They already beat the Chiefs this year. And although they lost badly to the Ravens, the Super Bowl won’t be played in Baltimore. It will be a nice re-do for the Lions who were embarrassed 38-6 back in October. The Super Bowl is being played in Las Vegas and has the indoor track & field like surface. This will be to Detroit’s advantage.

We’re not saying the Lions will definitely win Super Bowl 58, but at +950, they are the best value on the board. Besides, all they have to do is make it to the Super Bowl and you can hedge.
