Joe Burrow Could Be a Dark Horse for the 2025-26 NFL MVP Award

We haven’t even hit the end of the pro football preseason schedule, and there’s the obligatory intrigue surrounding NFL MVP odds.
Quarterbacks aren’t a particularly bad place to start, and the board is suggesting exactly that. Favored as of this early-August writing is the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson at 5-1 (+500). Right behind at 6-1 (+600) are Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow. While none of the trio has won a title, Burrow is the only one with title-game experience.
Burrow and his Bengals are the subjects of this missive, trying to rebound from an inconsistent and injury-riddled year. Cincy was a mediocre 9-8 last season, and whether that five-game winning streak at season’s end (that after an 0-3 start) was nothing more than fool’s gold remains to be seen.
Those bad getaways have plagued the guys in the striped helmets in recent seasons. Before the 0-3 in 2024, there was a 1-3 in 2023 and 0-2 in 2022. Getting out of the gate quickly once the NFL schedule begins in earnest next month would not be a bad thing.
It’s not easy, as the Bengals begin with three of their first four games (four-of-six) on the road.
Cincy has a date in Cleveland against the Browns to start the season.
Cincinnati is listed at 22-1 (+2200) to win the next title, according to NFL game odds. It’s without star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson and his league-leading 17½ sacks, who is ‘holding in’ while trying to get more guaranteed green out of the club. The chasm between the two sides depends on the time of day and who you choose to believe.
It’s never dull in Cincy.
Here’s a bit of a primer on Joe Burrow and the NFL with the preseason in progress…
What Is Joe Burrow’s Salary?
Quarterback Joe Burrow, selected as the first overall choice in the 2020 draft. signed a five-year, $275 million contract extension (through 2029) before the 2023 season. He will have to get by on ‘only’ $38 million this season, as per NFL news.
What Are Joe Burrow’s Stats?
There were a lot of league-leading numbers associated with Joe Burrow’s stats last season, including passes completed (460), attempted (652), yards (4,918), and touchdowns (43). He did play in all 17 games after an injury-shortened (10 games) 2023. Burrow has just over 19,000 passing yards and 140 touchdown passes against 46 interceptions in five seasons as a pro.
It’s no wonder Burrow isn’t too hard to find when the scavenger hunt is NFL MVP odds.
Despite those gaudy numbers of Burrow, Cincy’s missed the playoffs the past two seasons.

Any Final Thoughts?

Are the Bengals legit? That won’t be answered until NFL scores actually begin to count.
