An Early Look at NFC Wild Card Weekend

James Willis | January 5, 2026
NFC Wild Card playoff game previews and odds for January 2026

Wildcard Weekend is usually where betting gets more honest. No resting starters, no scoreboard watching, no strange motivation angles. Everyone left is playing because they have to, and that tends to tighten the board pretty quickly.

The NFC slate gives us three very different games. One team is laying a big number on the road. One matchup the market can’t really separate. And one game where injuries, experience, and venue are all pulling in different directions.

Here’s how I’m looking at it heading into the weekend.

Rams at Panthers

Rams -10 | Total 46.5 | Moneyline: Rams -600, Panthers +440

— odds at SportsBetting.ag

This number tells you exactly what oddsmakers think of Carolina. Even at home, they’re catching double digits in a playoff game.

The Rams earned their way here with a strong finish and have been priced like a serious contender for a while now. Matthew Stafford played at a high level all season, and the defense held up better than most expected. If Los Angeles plays a clean game, this spread makes sense.

Carolina is harder to trust. They needed help late just to win the division, and teams with this profile usually don’t get much benefit from home-field advantage in January. That said, they already beat the Rams once this season by forcing mistakes and taking advantage when L.A. played loose.

If the Panthers can slow things down and avoid turnovers, covering a big number isn’t crazy. If the Rams jump out early, though, this one could get away fast. That’s the risk baked into -10.

Packers at Bears

Packers -1.5 | Total 45.5 | Moneyline: Packers -115, Bears -105

— odds at SportsBetting.ag

This is the closest game on the board, and it’s priced that way for a reason.

Green Bay and Chicago split their regular-season meetings, and both games came down to the final minutes. One swung on a red-zone mistake. The other needed overtime after a late comeback. Nothing about those games suggested a clear edge either way.

Chicago has been comfortable living in tight games, and Caleb Williams has already handled a few high-pressure moments. They don’t overwhelm anyone, but they also don’t implode.

Green Bay has been the steadier team overall, but they haven’t consistently pulled away from opponents. From a betting standpoint, this feels like the type of game where pregame sides are thin, and totals or live spots might offer more value.

49ers at Eagles

Eagles -3.5 | Total 46.5 | Moneyline: 49ers +160, Eagles -192

— odds at SportsBetting.ag

This is the hardest game to pin down.

Philadelphia is the defending champion and a short home favorite, but the offense hasn’t been as smooth as it was last year. The defense is still reliable, and that’s what’s keeping them favored.

San Francisco has been inconsistent, mostly because of injuries. When healthier, they looked like one of the better teams in the conference. Late in the season, missing key players showed up, especially against better competition.

The spread suggests respect for Philadelphia’s ability to control the game, especially at home. If the 49ers offense looks like it did during its midseason stretch, this number could stay tight. If not, the Eagles should be able to manage the pace and limit mistakes.

Wildcard Weekend usually gives us at least one surprise, but the board is already sending a message. The Rams are expected to take care of business, Packers–Bears looks like a coin flip, and Eagles–49ers comes down to which version of San Francisco shows up.
