Lebron Next Team Odds
Lebron James informed the ownership of the Lakers that he is not interested in returning to the franchise earlier this week. And he let the media know that he still intends on playing basketball. Many folks had speculated that Lebron would hang it up after this past season. After all, it was his 23rd NBA season.
But if a player is still capable of scoring 20 PPG in the league (which is what he averaged per game in the regular season) as well as 23 PPG in the playoffs, why wouldn’t he return? Sure, he isn’t the same dominating force he once was but he is only 41 years old. I understand that 41 is old for a professional athlete, but with modern training and nutrition, the bounds have been pushed further than ever. Tom Brady played until he was 45.
Lebron will want to join a team that is a real championship contender. And even though he knows that we won’t be Player #1 (or maybe even player #2), he knows that he will be a strong contributor. This especially holds true for his ability to act as a player coach. After all, Lebron has been to 10 NBA Finals series and has won 4 of them. What player would be better than Lebron for this leadership role?
You can bet on which team you think he will land at various sportsbooks. Some of the top contenders are teams which have made big moves in the off-season in an obvious attempt to win a ring right now.
Lebron posted video of himself driving around in Cleveland this week. This stirred up speculation that he plans to join his old team the Cleveland Cavaliers. This after all is the team which drafted him, is his hometown team, and a team he played on for 11 seasons. He brought the Cavs their first championship. That’s why Cleveland is #2 on the list below at +200. The Cavs are a solid team that finished the regular season 52-30 and made it to the postseason.
The Miami Heat are also high on this list. The Heat are an interesting landing spot because Lebron (like every pro athlete) loves Miami. Lebron also played four seasons there, helping to bring Miami two more championships.
Prediction
While some sports writers, like those at BetOnline, have speculated that Lebron will join Golden State, I personally believe that Cleveland is a good place to close out his career. They have a real shot of making it to the Finals and he would absolutely love a huge hometown send off. We have to remember people with large egos want that storybook ending.
San Antonio would also be a great place to land. They made it to the Finals with a very young star player. Spurs management may look to bring Lebron in to help Victor Wembanyama along. I believe they sense that if he can be more disciplined and add a few tools to his game, that they will win it all this season and many more to come.
