Unlike division or conference futures, these wagers don’t require a team to make a deep playoff run. You’re simply asking whether a club will be better or worse than the number oddsmakers have posted.

Of course, that’s easier said than done. The 2026 season brings sweeping changes across the league, including 10 new head coaches and dozens of new coordinators. Some teams landed in ideal situations after free agency and the draft, while others still have enough question marks to make them difficult to trust. After looking through every posted total, these are the five bets I’d be most comfortable making today. 

Detroit Lions Over 10.5 Wins (-130)

If I had to choose just one win total before Week 1, this would probably be it. Detroit benefits from finishing fourth in the NFC North last season, which translates into a much friendlier schedule than many other contenders will face. Games against the NFC South, plus matchups with the Cardinals, Dolphins, Jets, and Titans, give the Lions several opportunities to stack wins early.

Sometimes a coaching hire changes the outlook of an entire franchise, and that’s exactly how it feels with John Harbaugh taking over in New York. The Giants don’t suddenly become Super Bowl contenders overnight, but reaching eight wins isn’t asking too much. The defense already features an aggressive pass rush, and another season of growth could make that unit one of the better fronts in the NFC.

Cincinnati Bengals Under 10.5 Wins (+115)

There’s no debating Joe Burrow’s talent. Whenever he’s healthy, Cincinnati has a chance to beat anyone. The concern is everything around him. The Bengals still have unanswered questions on defense, particularly in the secondary, and they’ll need another outstanding season from Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins just to stay near the top of the AFC.

Minnesota Vikings Under 8.5 Wins (-110)

Minnesota is one of the more fascinating teams entering the season. Minnesota enters the year with questions in the running game and must replace key contributors on defense after losing Jonathan Greenard.

New England Patriots Under 10.5 Wins (-145)

Winning 11 games in the NFL is never easy, especially when the schedule becomes significantly tougher. That’s the challenge facing New England. The Bottom Line

Win totals are rarely about finding perfect teams. They’re about identifying numbers that don’t quite match a team’s outlook. Detroit checks nearly every box you’d want in an over bet, from schedule strength to roster stability, making the Lions my favorite play on the board. I also like New York to take a step forward under Harbaugh, while Cincinnati, Minnesota, and New England all face enough uncertainty to make their unders appealing.
