Manchester City Favored by Sportsbooks to Win EPL

Scott Morris | August 4, 2017

Another soccer campaign in the English Premier League will begin shortly and for the second consecutive year Manchester City is predicted to win the title.

The Citizens were unable to win the title in 2016-17, landing third behind champions Chelsea and second place Tottenham, as they could only earn two points in their matches versus the other three clubs in the top four.

The results for Manchester City were a huge disappointment given the high expectations of fans and owners when the club brought over Pep Guardiola to manage from Bayern Munich.

City has spent more than €100 million on transfers this summer and those additions have helped make it the favorite to win the EPL at 7 to 4 on several sportsbooks.

Defending champions Chelsea did not do too bad for themselves during the transfer window with the addition of Alvaro Morata the Spanish striker and Tiemoue Bakayoko a French midfielder.

The Blues have the second shortest odds to win the EPL at 13 to 4. This makes them a very attractive option for those that are not fully behind City winning the title.

Manchester United sits with the third shortest odds just beyond Chelsea at 7 to 2 to win the EPL. The addition of Romelu Lukaku who transferred from Everton has given them a shot in the arm offensively.

The Red Devils won the Europa League last season giving them entrance into the Champions League and their confidence will be high entering the start of a new campaign in England.

United lost only five fixtures in league play last season and recorded an unbeaten streak of 25 league matches, but too many draws did them in when it came to battling for the league title.

Tottenham continues to compete well evidenced by its second place finish in the EPL in the most recent campaign, but is 9 to 1 to win the title this campaign. Rounding out the top 5 shortest odds to win the EPL is Liverpool at 10 to 1.

However, it appears the title will be fought between Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United under the tutelage of Guardiola, Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho respectively, three of the most respected managers in football today.
