2025 LSU Football Preview – Odds – Predictions
Louisiana State University has been trying to claw its way back to the championship game ever since Joe Burrow and his teammates won it all back in 2019. Since that glorious undefeated season, LSU has posted these overall win/loss records: 2020: 5-5, 2021: 6-7, 2022: 10-4, 2023: 10-3, 2024: 9-4. There were some good teams in there but none of them championship caliber.
Coach Brian Kelly took over the coaching position in 2021. He is a solid coach but has been unable to win it all in D1 football. He won back-to-back D2 school Grand Valley State in 2002 and 2003.
LSU has 16 starting players returning from last season. Among them are quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, wide receiver Aaron Anderson, running back Caden Durham, and linebacker Whit Weeks. Nussmeier threw for over 4,000 yards last season. That is a huge number for a college QB. He threw for 29 TD’s and 12 interceptions.
The Tigers look poised to make a run at the CFB playoffs. They have the best pieces back from last year and have a few transfers to boost the roster too. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they play in the SEC, which loaded with tier 1 talent. They have their work cut out for them with Florida, Alabama, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Oklahoma on the schedule. My guess is that they will win 3 or 4 of those 5 matchups.
In game 1, they travel to Clemson to do battle with tigers of a different stripe. And make no mistake, #4 Clemson is a very good program who are returning the same number of starters (16) and at key positions as well.
Sportsbetting.ag sportsbook currently has LSU’s total wins over/under at 8.5 games. This is a very fair number. I can see this landing on either side actually. They could lose 3 games, or they could lose 4 games. But if I were forced to pick one side, I would take the over. The fact of the matter is that this is the best team LSU has had in a while. If they catch a few breaks and have a positive turnover margin I can see them winning as many as 10 or even 11 games.
Futures oddsmakers seem to believe in the Tigers too. They currently have LSU at +1200 odds to win it all. That is #8 on the odds sheet behind Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama, Clemson, & Notre Dame. The AP poll has them ranked at #9.
